Common questions
A carb figure looks wrong
Please report it through the feedback form above, with the food name and where you saw the correct number. Figures come from published Australian nutrition data, and products do get reformulated. Corrections are made centrally, so a fix reaches everyone without an app update.
Why are these carbs lower than the label I am reading?
Australian labels state available carbohydrate, which excludes dietary fibre. CarbCal AU uses the same basis. A figure from a country that includes fibre, such as the United States, will read higher for the same food.
A food is missing
Send it in through the feedback form and it can be added. In the meantime you can enter it yourself: use the + button to add a custom food, either as carbs for the whole item or per 100 g with the amount you are eating.
Pump and pen modes
In Settings, choose whichever you use. Pump mode shows the carbohydrate figure to enter into your pump and nothing else. Pen mode works out units from the carbohydrate ratio you enter and shows the arithmetic behind the number.
The ratios in the app when you install it are placeholders, not recommendations. Set them from what your diabetes team has given you.
Deleting your data
Everything the app remembers — saved meals, custom foods and your settings — is stored on your device only. Deleting the app removes all of it. There is no account and nothing to delete on our side.
Safety
CarbCal AU is a calculator, not a medical device. It adds up published carbohydrate figures and applies the ratios you enter yourself.
It does not know about insulin still active from an earlier dose, exercise, illness, or how a meal was actually prepared. Treat what it shows as a starting figure to check against your own judgement, and follow the plan your diabetes team gave you.
If you are unwell or your readings are unusual, contact your diabetes team or your doctor.
