Privacy Policy

The short version: Centrl doesn't collect anything. Your school information goes straight between your iPhone and your school's Sentral site. It never passes through us.
Centrl ("the app") is an unofficial app for the Sentral school portal, made by an independent developer. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it.
What we collect
Nothing. The developer has no servers, accounts, analytics, advertising or tracking. We can't see your timetable, attendance, messages or anything else you view in the app.
Who the app talks to
- Your school's Sentral site. When you sign in, the app shows your school's own sign-in page and then loads your information (timetable, notices, attendance, payments and so on) directly from your school's Sentral site, exactly as the Sentral website does in a browser. Anything you send from the app, like an absence explanation or a message reply, goes to your school the same way.
- Sentral's school directory. When you search for your school, the name you type is sent to Sentral's public school search to find your school's Sentral address.
Your school and Sentral Education handle that information under their own privacy policies.
What stays on your devices
- Your sign-in. The session that keeps you signed in, and your password if you choose to save it, are stored in your iPhone's Keychain. They aren't sent anywhere except your school's sign-in page.
- Your school data. The app keeps a copy of what it last loaded on your iPhone so it opens instantly and works offline. It's protected by iOS file encryption.
- Widgets and Apple Watch. Your timetable and a short summary are shared with the app's widgets and, directly over Apple's watch connection, with your Apple Watch.
- Notifications. Alerts about timetable changes, notices and payments are created on your iPhone. There's no notification server.
Signing out deletes your sign-in and the school information the app saved. Deleting the app removes everything.
Diagnostics
If something isn't working, the app can make a diagnostics report showing what Sentral sent back. It's only shared if you choose to share it yourself, for example by email, and it can contain your school information.
Children
Centrl is used by students and their parents. Because the developer collects no information from anyone, there is nothing about children for us to store, use or share.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.

Does my school need to use Sentral?
Yes. Centrl works with schools that use the Sentral parent and student portal. Search for your school on the first screen, or type your school's Sentral address.
Can I try it without an account?
Yes. Tap "Explore with demo data" on the first screen for a student, or "Parent demo" for a family with two children. Nothing is sent anywhere in demo mode.
Some features are missing for my account.
Centrl hides anything your school has switched off, or that your account isn't allowed to see. It's the same as on the Sentral website.
I'm not getting notifications.
Open More → Notification settings in the app. It shows whether notifications are on and what to fix. Turn on Background App Refresh for Centrl in iOS Settings so it can check Sentral while the app is closed. iOS decides exactly when that happens, and Low Power Mode pauses it.
My Apple Watch shows nothing.
Open Centrl on your iPhone once, with your watch nearby, to send it your timetable.
Something looks wrong.
Go to More → Diagnostics → Run checks → Share report, and email it to us. The report contains your own school information, so only send it if you're comfortable.

- Unofficial. Centrl is an independent app. It isn't made, endorsed or supported by Sentral Education. "Sentral" is a trademark of its owner and is used here only to say which portal the app works with.
- Your school's information. Everything the app shows comes from your school's Sentral site. Your school is responsible for it. If something matters, like a room change or a payment, check with your school.
- Your account. Use the app only with a Sentral account you're allowed to use, and follow your school's rules for its portal.
- No warranty. The app is provided "as is". We work to keep it accurate and available, but can't promise it will always work, for example if Sentral changes how its portal works.
- Liability. As far as the law allows, the developer isn't liable for losses from using the app or relying on what it shows.
Apple's standard licence agreement for App Store apps also applies.
